I'VE POSTED SOME OF MY LATEST WORK IN MY NEWEST ADVENTURE: ENCAUSTIC PAINTINGS. I'VE LONG WANTED TO ATTEMPT THIS MEDIUM...IT LENDS IT SELF TO A COMBINATION OF ART TECHNIQUES.

THERE ARE ALSO SOME PHOTOGRAPHS FROM MY TRIP TO MANHATTAN IN SEPTEMBER AND SOME FROM MAINE...I WILL ADD IMAGES FROM TIME TO TIME.

CHARLIE PRAWDZIK, 1939-2010

Many of you know that Charlie Prawdzik was diagnosed with ALS in February, 2010. Sunday morning, October 31, Charlie succumbed to a heart attack...I got the call on my way to Florida Sunday somewhere in South Carolina on Interstate 95.

I’ve known for several weeks he was unable to do our November 19 concert because of his condition. Intellectually, I was prepared: Emotionally I’m dealing with the reality and struggling - as is usual - to reaffirm once again that it is a gift to feel so deeply about some one or some thing and is worth the pain of loss.

I connected with Charlie twelve years ago in the beginning of my singing career. When I moved to the Sarasota area I sought him out...well, I was simply seeking the best accompanist... and that accompanist was named Charlie Prawdzik.

One night at our first gig together at Bistro at Islands End in Anna Maria, I called for the tune “What’ll I Do”...counted it off :” One - two, one, two, three, four...

”Charlie looked up from the piano and said quietly...”That’s a waltz, you know.”

I said, “Yes, I know...So? “

“You counted it off in 4/4”, he said gently.

“So?” “I’ll sing it correctly” I said pleasantly, flailing my hand in the air....”Just play it.”

He smiled, played it...I sang it as a waltz. He had what I lacked myself; the technical aspects...but he knew I sang it from my heart and that was good enough for Charlie... We connected that night. We became musical soul mates. We were always each other’s accompanists: He listened. I heard.

All of you receiving this email are also connected to Charlie through our music - our gigs, concerts and recordings...and many knew him personally.

What some of you might not know about is his own fabulous recording, “Dreamworld” , a collection of elegantly performed standards plus two original compositions, “Cantique”, and the title tune, “Dreamworld”.

Check it out on: www.cdbaby.com/prawdzik We are fortunate to have this available.

You’re the best, Charlie Prawdzik. We’ll always be connected...but your buddy misses you...Diane, November 5, 2010.

March 3, 4, 2009 were the recording dates with Harry Allen. We had a good session and I plan to release the new CD, Love Wants To Dance, in 2010.
My pianist here in Sarasota, Charlie Prawdzik, performed beautifully-as did Billy Pillucere and Mark Neuenschwander on bass; Johnny Moore, drums; and Dave Trefethen on guitar.

An added treat to the mix this time around was Chris Pegis on cello who for years was first chair of the Florida West Coast Symphony. Chris now freelances and is Founder and Artistic Director of Amici Chamber Players.

Also on the recording for a couple tunes is world-reknown trombonist, John Allred.
